Use Firmary with ChatGPT, Codex, or Claude

The Firmary app lets an AI assistant work with your firm’s practice data from a conversation: clients and contacts, document requests, invoices, engagements, tasks and deadlines, time entries, messages, and reports. It always acts as you, sees and does only what your Firmary account is allowed to, and stays within the limits your firm sets for AI apps.

Before you connect, you need:

  • A Firmary staff account at your firm.
  • Your firm allows the AI app. A firm administrator turns this on in Firmary under Admin → Integrations → Agent access → Firm connection policy.

Connect

  1. ChatGPT or Codex: find Firmary in the Plugins directory and add it. Claude: open Customize → Connectors and find Firmary in the directory (Claude guide). If your app asks for a server address, use https://os.firmary.app/api/mcp.
  2. The app opens Firmary’s sign-in page. Sign in with your Firmary account as usual, including multi-factor authentication if your firm requires it.
  3. Review the access screen. It shows which firm you are connecting, what the app will be able to reach, and how long the connection lasts. Approve it to finish.
  4. Ask something about your practice, for example:
    • “Which of my clients still owe documents for this year's return?”
    • “Show invoices more than 60 days past due, grouped by client.”
    • “What's on my work queue this week, and what's overdue?”
    • “Create a task to review the Nguyen household's 1099s, due Friday, assigned to me.”

Changes and approval links

Reading and changing data use separate tools. Lookups and reports never change anything. Anything that creates, changes, sends, or deletes data asks for your confirmation in the app first.

Critical actions, such as voiding an invoice or changing someone’s access, also need approval in Firmary. The app gives you a link to a Firmary approval page; open it, approve, and the conversation continues. If a link has expired, ask again and you will get a new one.

Some things are only done in Firmary itself: refunds, API keys and webhook secrets, passwords and multi-factor settings, and client EINs. When you ask for a client’s EIN, the app gives you a link to that client in Firmary instead. Every change made through an AI app is recorded in your firm’s audit log.

Manage or disconnect

See and revoke your own connections in Firmary under Settings → Agent access, or remove Firmary from the AI app’s own settings.

Firm administrators can see every connected AI app, limit what each can do, and suspend or revoke connections under Admin → Integrations → Agent access.

If something isn’t working

  • “Not allowed” or missing actions: your role or your firm’s AI policy doesn’t permit it. Ask a firm administrator.
  • Sign-in loops or expired connections: disconnect Firmary in the app, then connect again.
  • Anything else: email [email protected] with the app you used and roughly when it happened.

Privacy

Firmary sends an AI app only the results of the requests it makes on your behalf and does not receive your conversations. See the privacy policy, terms of service, and security overview.
